So you’ve begun harnessing the power of data in your video marketing campaign.
But the response has been less than stellar so far, and you’ve been wondering:
Where did I go wrong?
Although data-driven video content can definitely boost your success, there’s a way to go about it. Adding data points to your content won’t magically solve your marketing problems.
Here are 3 mistakes you might be making that are costing you the results you deserve.
1. Dumping ALL the Data
Data is powerful - we believe it, you believe it, your audience probably believes it (at least in their subconscious).
But too much of a good thing can be just as bad as not using it at all.
If you’re cramming your video to the brim with every data point you can find, you risk overloading the viewer with too much information.
Remember what we said about casting a wide net?
The same goes for your data - adding too much data will dilute your message. It will be difficult for your viewer to retain anything of importance if they’re blasted with too much information at once.
2. Dry as Uncooked Pasta
For some reason, some marketers think that:
Data = Dry
As a result, they create dry, colorless videos hoping that the data-driven approach alone will save them from having to use their creativity.
If you take a boring video with no personality and overlay some white text with data points over the image, that won’t magically make your video more entertaining. You’re just adding dry seasoning to dry content.
The result is still dry.
Video marketing is an opportunity for your business to present data that can feel dry on its own but that becomes fun and compelling when blended with a touch of creativity.
3. No Context = No Engagement
It can be tempting to stick a statistic in your video - and then move on to the next point, thinking that the statistic will do all the magical work.
That’s not the way it works.
Without context, your audience won’t identify with your data. How do your data points relate to their problems? Why should they care?
Provide specific examples and stories to illustrate the relevance of your data.
Remember that the context should be crafted to target your ideal audience. If you’re targeting sporty men in their 40s, don’t illustrate an example of a young stay-at-home mom.
With relevant context, your audience will be more likely to connect to your video’s message and engage with your content.
